Choosing the right flood light wattage saves money and gives proper light. Too low and the area stays dark; too high and you pay for light you do not need. Here is a simple guide for common uses in Pakistan.

For a wide area, two or more lights of the right wattage spaced evenly usually look better than one very powerful light.

What else to check

• IP rating: for outdoor use in rain and dust choose IP65 or IP66.
• Real lumens: compare lumens, not only watts. A good modern flood light gives about 100-140 lumens per watt.
• Aluminium body: a die-cast aluminium housing removes heat and protects the LEDs and driver.
• Voltage range and surge protection: important where voltage drops in the evening or spikes after load shedding.
• Beam angle: about 120° for general area lighting; narrower beams for signboards and long throw.
• Colour: 6500K cool white for security and work areas; warm white for decorative facades.
